Angelique  became a client of ABIPA in 2008. She has learned to organize, plan, and stay focused. With these skills she has cared for mother who had dementia, maintained two homes and gone to school to complete her nursing training. She has never given up, and now she is and LPN making a living wage. Angelique is now focused on her health by changing her eating habits and increasing her exercise. She says, “ I thank ABIPA assisting with my tuition, books, helping with food, supplying her with a small stipend for work done at ABIPA when she had trouble making ends meet and just being a support system for all these years. I wouldn’t have made it this far without ABIPA’s support.” She continued to pay it forward by volunteering her time and then transitioned to a team member by assisting the former ABIPA nurse. She is now an integral part of the IFHPA team.

VirginiaConnecting In Multiple Settings

Virginia has participated in our PRAISE Project at Bethel SDA church, one of our Gold Praise Churches and receives fresh produce at the Community Engagement Markets in her neighborhood of Deaverview . She says that the focus and support that ABIPA provides in eating right and staying active in church and at home has helped her staying true to the new healthy life style that  has helped her with her problem she used to have with tumors.

TonyConnecting Saves Lives

Tony had been coming to our prostate screening for many years, because of the velocity of his rising PSA he was told he needed a biopsy. It took support and talking to him for almost 2 years to get him to having a biopsy where he was told he had stage 2 prostate cancer. Tony wants everyone to get screened and not let fear of a biopsy keep you from seeking help early. Tony had clinician implants radioactive seeds into the prostate gland. The number of seeds and where they are placed is determined by a computer-generated treatment plan tailored for each patient. Anywhere from 40 to 100 seeds are commonly implanted. He is do very well and thanks ABIPA for our annual screening, one on one Nurse navigation support and helping him “live to work on cars once again”.

Connecting By Example

“III John 2  states, Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers. The combined efforts of ABIPA and UNC Asheville with the PRAISE Initiative to impact the health of our churches  as a perfect community collaboration allows our congregations to make this passage literally come to life.”
