In the wake of Helene ABIPA has continued to CARE,Community Activated Response Equitably. We have delivered over 10,000 food boxes and bags, and provided sanitation supplies, coats, below 30 sleeping bags, emergency blankets, fuel and more directly to families that were camping due to displacement. Now that response resources evaporate, the true work begins. We are here to support the long road to recovery helping our neighbors navigate their new normal of mental, financial, physical, and social health.
During the height of relief ABIPA’s new resource and distribution center in Fletcher received donations by semi-trucks from as close as Charlotte and as far away as Southern California. We have been able to support Legacy neighborhoods that received an out pouring of support but no longer had capacity to receive and store goods. We now serve as their receiving location where we inventory and store the goods until they need. In other instances where they wanted to transition spaces back to original uses we have picked up their inventory and integrated it into our general warehouse supplies that are open to the community as Free Sunday Shops from 3:00 – 6:00 on the fourth Sunday of the month when families can come shop for free food and supplies that they need. We view this as not just giving away free stuff, rather making an equitable reinvestment in community members ability to pay off a small bill, purchase medication or start an emergency fund. Whether you donated, gift cards, cash, coats, or supplies we say thank you to those that have given. Our neighbors are still in need of support, please see the link to our amazon wish list that will help keep our donation pods refilled now that disaster response resources have ceased. You can also donate using the QR Code or by mailing donations to us at P.O. Box 448 Asheville, NC 28802 or Shipping items directly to us at ABIPA 220 Continuum Drive Fletcher NC 28732. Thank you to those who will continue to help with resources that support to our neighbors that are now experiencing longterm recovery.
