The PACE Program
The PACE Program (Parity Achievement Community Empowerment)
offers an exciting opportunity for Volunteers to take on leadership roles in
their respective communities
as a member of one of the Parity Action Teams
for Breast Cancer, Prostate, Cancer and Diabetes.
The PACE Program is funded by the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund.
The NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund makes North Carolina stronger, both
physically and economically, by funding programs that promote preventive health.
Created by the General Assembly in 2000 to allocate a portion of North
Carolina's share of the national tobacco settlement, HWTF has invested $199
million to support preventive health initiatives and $102 million to fund
prescription drug assistance programs. For more information, please visit

Building Brothers
The Building Brothers program’s focus is to
enrich the lives of African-American men who are diabetic in Buncombe County
by encouraging men to build healthy lives. We believe that physical, mental,
economic, and social health strengthen the total man. With this in mind
programming includes providing participating men with support in cultivating
healthy life styles health screenings, men’s support groups, and access to
care for those without resources. In addition because mental and financial
barriers often impede progress and success, the men will also receive one on
one mental health support and financial counseling. The Building Brothers
program is funded by the NC Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities.
