Education and Health Services

PACE (Parity Achievement through Community Empowerment)
PACE provides services through collaboration with community organizations, groups, and individuals in an effort to address and improve health conditions for African Americans. The health priorities of the PACE program are Breast and Prostate Cancers. PACE services include:

  • Assessments
  • Health Screenings
  • Community/Onsite Educational Sessions
  • Referrals
  • Service Navigation
  • Client Advocacy

MMMP (Minority Medical Mentoring Program)
The Minority Medical Mentoring Program (MMMP) is an internship experience that pairs minority high school seniors with physicians and healthcare practitioners in Buncombe County. Students who meet criteria are able to participate in the school-sanctioned internship for course credit. Students will experience medical rotations in private practices, clinical settings, didactics with Family Medicine Residents, Grand Rounds and several other forums that provide a quality learning experience.

Body & Soul
Body & Soul is a 4 week health program developed for African American churches. The program encourages church members to eat a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables every day for better health.
Congregations will:

  • Learn how health and spirituality are connected
  • Feel empowered to take charge of their health
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables every day
  • Live healthier in other ways, such as eating less fat and getting more physical activity
  • Gain access to vital health information at the church

The Ladies Night Out Program is offered by Mission Health and Hospitals in association with ABIPA, Asheville Radiology Breast Center, the Buncombe County Health Centers Breast and Cervical Control and Wise Women Programs, the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville, and the YWCA of Asheville.

Educational Workshops
Diabetes Health & Prevention – A support group for African American men and women who have been diagnosed with or who are at high risk of developing diabetes.  The diabetes support groups are held at the following sights:

Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church
238 South French Broad Ave. Asheville, NC 
Every-  1st and 3rd  Saturday from 3:30-4:30pm.

ABIPA Office
Every 1st & 3rd  Monday of the month at from Noon until 1:00
Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church
56 Walton St., Asheville, NC
Every 2nd & 4th Sunday of the month from 1:00 until 2:00pm


Brother 2 Brother Breakfast Club- A Prostate Health  group for African American men who have been diagnosed with or who are survivors of Prostate Cancer.  Brother 2 Brother meets the second Saturday of each month at the ABIPA office at 8:30 am

Sista 2 Sista  Lunch & Learn- A Breast Health  group for African American women who have been diagnosed with or who are survivors of Breast Cancer.
Sista 2 Sista is held the third Saturday of each month 12-1:30 p.m.at:
